Death by Suicide

Men had higher rates of death by suicide than the county overall.

The overall rate of death by suicide among King County residents was 12.3 per 100,000 residents from the years between 2018-2022. In the most recent year, 2022, the death rate for suicide among King County residents was 12 per 100,000,totaling 298 deaths.    

  • Age: The rates of death by suicide among adults 75+ years of age (20.6 per 100,000), adults ages 65-74 (16.5 per 100,000), adults ages 45-64 years (17.7 per 100,000), and adults ages 18-24 (17.6 per 100,000) were higher than the rate for King County overall. Youth 18 years old and younger had a lower rate of death by suicide compared to King County overall (2.6 per 100,000). 

  • Race: Asian (7.2 per 100,000) and Latinx/Hispanic (8.6 per 100,000) residents had lower rates of death by suicide compared to the rate for the county overall. White residents had a higher rate at 14.1 per 100,000.   

  • Income: Very high poverty areas in King County had a higher rate of death by suicide compared to King County overall (15.6 per 100,000).  

  • City/Neighborhood: Seattle - Downtown, Belltown, and First Hill (34.0 per 100,000) had the highest rates of death by suicide in King County. Seattle – Green Lake and Phinney Ridge (5.3 per 100,000) and Seattle – Rainier Valley and Rainier Beach (6.4 per 100,000) had a lower rate of death by suicide compared to King County overall.
