Median Household Income
While median household income has increased, major racial disparities persist.
The median household income in King County for the period 2018-2022 was $116,340, which was higher than the Washington State overall average.
Trends: Median household incomes have been increasing over time for King County households, from $71,834 in 2013 to $116,255 in 2022. Similar trends in median income over this time period also occurred in Seattle and across Washington State households.
Race: Asian-headed ($140,765) and white, non-Hispanic-headed ($122,103) households had the highest median incomes, which were higher than the King County average. Households headed by Black/African American ($63,220), American Indian/Alaska Native ($57,738), Hispanic/Latino ($83,895) and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander ($80,000) people had median household incomes lower than the King County average. Asian-headed households earned more than twice the median income of Black/African American and American Indian/Alaska Native households.
Age: For households headed by someone age 45-64 years, the medium income was $136,732, higher than the King County average and all other age groups. Households headed by someone age 15-24 years ($56,227) and 65 or older ($71,098) had median incomes which were lower than the King County average, and all other age groups.
